Monkey Flower

Bright yellow, snapdragon-shaped flowers spotted with red on lower lobes blooming in succession from early spring to late summer. Mat-forming perennial with soft, light-green, broadly rounded, toothed leaves. Spreads gently by stolons, excellent pond plant perfect for naturalizing around pond edges or in boggy soils. Attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, and beneficial pollinators. Common Monkeyflower is fully hardy and grows well in full sun to partial shade.

Best in full sun to light shade in fertile, humus-rich, moisture-retentive soils. Keep consistently moist but never waterlogged - avoid overwatering as plant is sensitive to soggy soil. Deadhead spent flowers before seeding to control spreading. Hardy perennial tolerating temperatures down to -20°C. Very low maintenance, not susceptible to pests or diseases. Grows 1 to 3 feet tall. Trim back overgrown foliage after flowering and divide clumps every few years in spring to reinvigorate the plant.
